Dance classes in the public school kept me interested in—and enrolled in—school. My first paying job as a teenager was teaching ballet. I stayed healthy so I could dance. Ballet and Modern dance contributed to my personal development and my livelihood.
In part, I learned about the world through dance experiences. I want to give others the chance to learn and find fulfillment through ballet. So I created Beauvais Ballet.
Beauvais Ballet’s debut performance was in the 2010 Arizona Dance Festival. We performed the original dance titled Holo Mai Pele (Here Comes Pele) Ballet. We repeated this performance in 2011 in San Jose, California.
From 2013 – 15, I focused on dance advocacy and helped other artists promote their work while I faced the onslaught and management of Multiple Sclerosis.
So…I still have MS, but choose to focus on what’s possible, not what’s slipping away.
Open your heart, modern ballet will give you something too. Aloha, Renée
